PROOF90

Rep counter app for push-ups and squats

A rep counter app should save you from counting in your head. The question is how it counts, because the method decides whether you can trust the number. Proof90 counts push-ups and squats with your phone's camera, and labels everything it can't measure.

The three ways an app can count reps

Camera pose detection. The phone watches your joints and counts a rep when you move through your range and back. It works hands-free, needs nothing on your body, and can tell a real rep from a half-rep. It needs to see you, so it needs a little space and light. This is what Proof90 does.

Proximity or motion sensors. You put the phone on the floor or hold it, and a sensor fires as you get close or move. It's simple and works in the dark, but it counts movement near the sensor, not a rep, so it is easy to over- or under-count.

Manual counting. You tap a button or type in the number. It's accurate only to the extent you are, which is the "tick-box" problem every habit app has.

What Proof90's counter checks

For squats it follows the angle at your knee (hips, knees and ankles in view); for push-ups the angle at your elbow (shoulders, elbows and wrists in view). For both it:

What it can't do

It isn't a coach and it doesn't judge your form beyond range of motion. It doesn't count exercises it hasn't been built for. When the camera can't count a set, you can log it on your word and it is recorded as exactly that. See how verification works.

Set your phone up

Prop the phone side-on, a few steps back, with your whole body in frame and good light. Wait for the "I can see you" signal and start. The push-up counter guide has the setup in more detail, and the squat counter guide has a 60-second checklist and a table of miscount causes and fixes.

From counting to a challenge

A counter tells you how many. A challenge tells you whether you kept showing up. Proof90's 90-day challenge builds the push-ups and squats up over 13 weeks, adds a daily walk measured by your phone's sensors, and keeps a streak that can't be rewritten.

Questions

What is the best way to choose a rep counter app?

Ask how it counts, whether it works offline, whether it records video, and whether it tells you when it isn't sure. An app that never admits a miss is guessing.

Does Proof90 work for other exercises?

Today it counts push-ups and squats by camera, measures walks with your phone's motion sensors, and treats anything else (food, sleep) as honor-system and labels it that way.

Does it use AI?

It uses on-device machine-learning pose detection to find your joints. The counting rules that turn those joints into reps are ordinary logic that we test against recorded movement, so a given set counts the same way every time.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Frames are processed on the phone and discarded.
